Cheap Tiles For Bathrooms

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

When it comes to choosing cheap bathroom tiles you are only really left with three options: Ceramic porcelain or slate tiles. As your choice of material is limited the colour that you choose becomes really important. If you are looking for cheap floor tiles then the slate tiles provide the most surface grip and are relatively easy to maintain. Slate tiles also come in different finishes meaning you can have many different looks to your bathroom for a low cost.

The favoured cheap bathroom wall tile is the ceramic, available in a wide range of colours shapes and sizes it is the perfect tile for a low budget bathroom. As ceramic tiles are the cheapest they are perfect for renovating an investment property when you don’t want to spend unnecessary money on a bathroom that you may never use. Along with being cheap these ceramic tiles are also available in different sizes and colours. As your choice of material is limited this makes the colour that you choose even more important, choosing light colours like white allows more light to reflect within your bathroom making it feel bigger, this same affect can be acquired by use the same colour tiles through your bathroom.

The size of the tile really comes down to how much space you have available. Smaller tiles such as 10cm x 10cm are perfectly suited to smaller bathrooms often making the space feel bigger. Having smaller tiles will also increase the amount of grout line which may put people off but this can be solved by having the same colour grout as the tiles so that everything blends in. Larger tiles such as 60cm x 30cm or above are not suitable for small bathrooms as they will have it be cut around objects making the bathroom look untidy. These tiles are only suitable for larger bathrooms where there is lots of space available. The most common and practical choice is medium tiles (40cm x 20cm) which are perfect for any size bathroom as they do not fill  the room with unappealing grout lines and do not have an effect of the size of the room.

When it comes to choosing cheap tiles for your bathroom it is important to remember the style that you are looking for as it still may be available but for cheaper. Just because you may have a low budget doesn’t mean you can’t have what you want.

Luxury Bathroom Tiles

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Bella Bathrooms has a new wide range of bathroom tiles with a wide variety to choose from. When it comes to choosing luxury bathroom tiles there is really only one choice: natural stone tiles. Natural stone tiles such as granite, marble or slate are usually the most expensive option but give your bathroom the most luxurious feel possible. These natural stone tiles are perfect for re-tiling the floor of your bathroom; natural stone tiles are available in larger sizes than normal ceramic or porcelain tiles and materials such as slate offer a high water resistance reducing the risk of slipping while in your bathroom.

Marble tiles are the most common of the natural stone bathroom tiles with a majority of marble tiles being made from composite. Being made from a composite means that they are largely cheaper than the natural marble tiles. This composite marble is commonly used for bathroom fixtures such as baths, basins and shower trays where used natural marble would be excessively expensive. Using this composite material offer more strength than natural marble but with the same aesthetic qualities making it less likely than fixtures will break leaving you with a collection of expensive broken marble.

The composite material that marble is made from also allows you to have this material in a wide range of colours ranging from red to yellow and pink to purple, along with the natural swirls of crystalline this makes for a simply stunning tile.

Slate tiles are less common within households but are probably the most practical. Slate tiles offer the most surface grip and the most water resistant surface making them perfect for floor tiles within your bathroom. These slate tiles are also available in a wide range of sizes and shapes with many different finishes from a rough surface to a smooth polished look. The level of maintenance that is required is all down to the type of finish that you have. The rough surface will require regular maintenance, whereas the smoother surface will only require a clean when necessary.

Granite tiles are the most economical luxury bathroom tiles. Granite tiles offer the most protection against physical damage such as scratches and chips along with offering high resistance to heat and pressure. Granite tiles like all natural stone tiles command the top end of any budget when tiling a bathroom, but these granite tiles are excellent value for money as they will last decades into the future due to their high durability.

Natural stone tiles will always force you to go to the top end of your budget but sometimes it is worth it. When choosing your natural stone tiles be sure to thing about the practicality of the tile and if your are prepared to live with it not just about how good it looks, although that is very important.

Choosing Bathroom Tiles

Monday, August 29th, 2011

When it comes to choosing bathroom tiles there are many things to take into account such as the shape, style, size, material, colour and the pattern of the tile. When choosing the tiles for your bathroom you should take your time to choose the right ones as this can add value to your home. Along with choosing the tile itself you also have to think about the layout or design of the tiles once they are in your bathroom. Placing the tiles is crucial to the overall look of the bathroom.

If you are looking to make your bathroom feel bigger then it would be a good idea to use light coloured tiles such as cream or white as these tiles reflect more light than darker tiles giving the impression that the room is bigger, another way that this can be done is by using the same colour floor tiles as the wall tiles or alternatively by using a similar coloured grout to your tiles. If it is a modern look that you are after then; solid colours should be placed on a plain background to create a contemporary feel.

The shapes of the tiles can also affect the feel of the room. The harlequin design pattern uses a diamond shaped tiles which is usually just a standard square tile turned on a 45 degree angle. By using a black and white colour scheme with white bathroom furniture, this shape can give a very expensive look to your bathroom but without the extra cost.

Another aspect to take into account when choosing a tile is the durability and water resistance. For example when choosing a tile to place next to the bath or shower it is a good idea not to have a tile which is glazed or marble as these may increase the chance that the floor will become slippery and this may be dangerous, for this situation it would be best to chose a tile such as slate which has a rough texture allowing for more grip on the surface, as commonly the rougher the texture of the tile the less slippery it will become. Another situation is when you are choosing a tile for a countertop, this tile will have to be durable enough to withstand items being placed and moved across it every day, so it is a good idea to have a tile with a glaze on it as this provides a protective layer on the title so that it is not damaged.

The final thing to look at when buying tiles is the size. If your bathroom is small and everything is close together then smaller tiles would be better as it would require less cutting around different obstacles, giving your bathroom a more flowing feel. If your bathroom is larger then you have the Luxury of larger tiles this will give a sleek look to your bathroom also combined with smaller tiles to create a border can make your bathroom look fantastic.

Planning your bathroom will ensure that you have the overall look you want.

The suitably is what you need to consider when you are planning your bathroom and you look into tiles you need to consider if the size of your bathroom is large or small. This can help you to decide on the tiles because smaller bathrooms need smaller sized tiles where as a large bathroom would need larger tiles. This can be worked out based on the floor measurement; this should be worked out as well so you know how many tiles you will need. When you decide on colours for your bathroom it is always a good idea to either use a solid colour for your floor and wall tiles, or use different colours tiles for the floor and wall but they must be the same shade of colour otherwise they will not go together.

This final stage of planning your tiles is to consider the materials. There are many types of material which tiles are made from but the more common types used is mosaic, stone, vinyl, laminate and ceramic. These are more often used because they are safer to walk on. These tiles can come with an anti-slip; this offers a peace of mind for anyone when they walk on the floor.

Tips for Grouting Tiles

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Before you can begin grouting your bathroom tiles you need to have a quick tidy up, but only begin to have tidy up if the tile adhesive has dried and has a firm grip on the tiles. It would be advised that you check the manufactures drying times. If the adhesive has dried then you can begin by wiping off any excess adhesive and give the adhesive some more time to set just to be sure. The plastic spacers which you have used to give the tiles equal distance apart need to be removed using pliers. Finally the tiles need to be checked for any adhesive that has got on the tiles and this needs to be taken off with a scraper if any has.

After you have given the tiles a tidy you can begin to grout. Firstly you need to mix the grout. This should be done by following the manufactures instructions because grout can be mixed with either water or alternately a latex mixer, but mostly water is used. Remember that if you use water do not use warm water because this will set the grout before it’s in the joints. Once the grout is mixed you need to take about one hand full at a time and start from the corner of the room and work backwards putting the grout down then spread it out using a grout spreader. You need to be spreading the grout diagonally across the tiles and using the spreader tool at a 45 degree angle; this ensures that the grout gets into the joints.

The third step is making sure that the grout is in the joints. Make sure you know the drying times for the grout if not then you should check the back of the packaging before starting to wipe off the excess grout. Once the grout has dried and you have left ample time from the manufacturers guidelines then it is time to wash off the excess grout. This is done by using a damp wet sponge, the sponge needs to be kept clean and regularly rinsed out. Then to clean the tiles off just pull the sponge lightly across each tile at right angles only.

Finally just make sure you have got all the excess grout off because once dried the excess grout will damage the tile. This happens when the grout on the tile dries and removes the surface off the tiles. When the water has dried off the tiles then polish off using a dry cloth. It is highly recommended that you use a waterproof seal; this is done by running a bead of sealant around the key areas such as the bath and sink.

This guideline is used for the re-grouting process also, the only other step for you to take would be the removal of the previous grout with a razor blade and it would make life easier to moisten the joints beforehand. Two other tips would be do not put any leftover grout in your drain because it will harden and block your drain, also use a waterproof grout is recommended for a bathroom.
