How to Choose a Shower Door – Alcove or Corner?

Whatever you’re looking for in a shower door, it can be found within our extensive shower doors range. But which is the right door for your bathroom space? Just follow these 3 simple steps to help you make an informed decision:

How to Choose a Shower Door:

Step 1:

Preparation – Measure the width of your shower door but importantly also measure the space available in the bathroom to get in and out, and for the door to open.

Step 2

Location – Choose your location. Are you installing the shower door into an alcove or corner site?

Step 3

Door Type – Choosing your shower door type: We have a variety of different styles of shower doors available from hinged to sliding. Make sure you select the right door type for your given space. A large bathroom can accommodate a hinged door to be opened out into it. While a smaller bathroom space may be best suited to a sliding door that doesn’t require space beyond the enclosure. Make sure when choosing a door for an alcove enclosure that the door style will leave you sufficient room for access in and out of the enclosure.

What Types of Shower Doors are Available?

Pivot Shower Doors

Pivot Door

Pivot shower doors offer the widest opening for a given size of enclosure. These doors pivot and open into the enclosure flat against the wall. You must ensure nothing is stored on that side of the shower which may inhibit the door from fully opening. Remember the door is reversible so can open to the left or right depending on your bathroom layout.

Bi-Fold Shower Doors

Bi-Fold Door

BiFold shower doors are ideal if there is not enough space in the bathroom for a pivot door as the door folds inwards. May not be the best solution if your mobility is limited as you will need to move out of the way of the door to open it.

Sliding Shower Doors

Sliding Door

The popular Sliding shower doors are another door style that does not intrude into the bathroom space. They provide a very easy to use solution for widths of 1000mm.

Shower Cubicles

Hinged Shower Door

Hinged shower doors open out into the bathroom to create a large access point. These easy to use doors are a popular option for both alcove and corner enclosures. For corner enclosures don’t forget to order a side panel as well as a door to complete the enclosure.
